Birch River Operation, Webster County, WV

Approximately 65-70 sixth grade students from Glade Elementary School attended this event and planted 400 Northern Red Oak tree seedlings. The mining company, International Coal Group (ICG), used the Forestry Reclamation Approach to reclaim their Birch River Operation in preparation for the tree planting. The entire complex is about 5,000-6,000 acres.

ICG gave a brief talk about the operation and the mining process. All students in attendance received a tree seedling to take home.
